Want to obtain environmental certifications like ISO 14001 or EMAS? Start with this simple estimation of your environmental impact for scopes 1, 2 and part of 3.
Scope 1Direct emissions from sources owned - burning fuel in your fleet or in your sites.
Scope 2Indirect emissions from the generation of your business’ purchased energy - electricity and heating consumption at your facilities.
Scope 3All indirect emissions in the value chain of your business - transportation, waste generation, traveling… etc.
Before you start, you need to gather this information. The more info you provide, the more accurate the measurement will be.
Define the time period for which you want to calculate. We recommend you do it annually.
Amount of energy consumed (in kWh). Look for electricity and heating bills of the period of calculation.
Quantities of fuels consumed by equipment and vehicles (owned) and type (natural gas, diesel…). Look into your company's records.
